BOB DYLAN'S CHRONICLES VOL. 1: AN INDEX, BY MICHAEL GRAY
After I bought Dylan’s Chronicles Volume One, I recognised that for my own research purposes I needed to compile an index to the book. Of course the book should have come with an index in the first place: any (supposedly) non-fiction book shortchanges the reader if it doesn’t provide one.
Mine runs to 31 pages, and contains 1,384 entries: in total 6,517 words and page-numbers. It applies to all US and UK editions, and presumably to any other English-language editions.
I'm offering it for sale as a PDF file to be sent to you as an e-mail attachment at £8, which is as much to cover the processing time as anything.
Comments from readers:
"I'd be happy to buy a copy of the index. I'm always searching for a gem in that book. Thanks Michael."
"Very useful to have one when you're wondering where to find some particular bit you want to read again, or quote accurately, or whatever."
"Michael, thanks for your brilliant index. If I were Robert Christgau, I would give this Index A++. It's a work of art that I dreamt about finding because the way Chronicles works (dream-like) is that things flow backwards & forwards in a subjective way, and I'm never sure which bit goes where. I still like the book and your Index reminded what a prodigious rag-bag of ideas and references are contained in its 290 pages."
